All right. So now that you’ve got a crash course, how to use MidJourney, let’s try doing some patterns. Now, as I said earlier on, I really liked to have an idea of what I’m going in with.

[00:13:00] And I usually do a search to look for word. Inspirations. So, What I am gravitated to is I love art deco patterns.

And I have a search done here and I’ve clicked on to images. And this will, you can do this on Google too, if you want to. And I see all these. images here. And I’m trying to see if they have any words that I can use. So I know right off the bat that this style here is called art deco. So I know I want to use that term.

I can use abstract if I want to, but I’m afraid abstract might make it. too abstract. I’m going to, I’m going to refrain from that. I do like period design. I do like diamond and pattern and wallpaper. I do like seamless art. I’m not sure we’ll do that very well. What else? What else here?

Let’s see. I do like geometric. what am I do here is I’m going to open up a little, file here. And I’m going to write down all the words that I’ve come up. Come across It’s good to use. So art deco.

Diamond.

Pattern.

What else wallpaper, 1920s.

And. Let’s see here.

I think I’m missing a few things. From earlier on.

Diamond wallpaper. Okay. we can try seamless, but I, again, I’m not so sure it will understand that very well.

Let’s go back down. Again, I’m looking for words. Okay. I’m not looking at the

[00:15:00] design yet because it really doesn’t matter what the design of these are. Because, whatever you put in, it’s going to turn out very different from what you think it’s going to be. So if I put an art deco, seamless pattern, it’s not going to give me this. It might not even give me anything that looks like any of them, any of the patterns on this page, but we’re trying to look for words that will help it do that.

And I’ve noticed also that usually these are gold with a black or Navy background. This one is lighter, but I really like gold and black. So I’m just going to put gold, black. Here. In the meantime.

And, what else? Geometric. Okay, geometric. Alright. Perfect.

So before I go to MidJourney and just plug all this in, I [00:16:00] want to arrange my words. Because believe it or not in MidJourney, the words that you use matter a lot of course. But the sequence that you use it and how you use it, and a number of words that you use definitely matter too. And, I know that some people think the more words the better, but, actually, no.

And it really depends, If you say art deco motif in shell pattern or in a wavy pattern, it might not do as well as if you say art deco. Motif waves. Does that make sense? So there’s a slight way you have to reword this. Oh, and talking about motif. That’s another word I like to use. Motif. Okay.

Based on my experience, what I like to start off with when doing flat patterns

[00:17:00] like this is to actually tell it flat illustration. And I usually also throw in a vector in there, just to nudge things a little bit to ensure MidJourney understands that I want it. Like a two dimensional pattern. I’m not looking for an image like pattern. Not unless you really want to, then you can use something else, but for patterns.

I’m going with this way of crafting the prompt or the words has really worked very well for me now. In the future. This might change. I don’t know. As MidJourney changes, we will change accordingly. But at this point, this is what works well for me. And then I am going to put a little comma here.

I’ve told it what type of style I want it to be .

Next I put in the subject matter and the subject matter would be

[00:18:00] Deco. diamond, pattern.

I’m going to to put pattern last. I’m going to put art deco diamond in 1920s, I just thought of something else gatsby. And I’m going to stop it there.

And then I’m going to tell it I want this as a pattern. Okay. So all the words that describe patterns, will be of course pattern, motif, wallpaper.

And I want, if I can try seamless and see how it does. I also have geometric here. So I’m going to put geometric over here. Geometric.

You see that I’ve broken my prompts up into three sections. Okay. The first section is telling it. The style of

[00:19:00] art then I want it to be. The second section is the subject matter. And then the third section here is how I want it to be laid out , and then the last here I end with a comma. The last part here is dash tile. That’s very important. Otherwise it won’t do a seamless pattern. If you’re looking to mix in this pattern, you must have this dash tile in there and to nudge a little further, we do test on it.

And I know it sounds like you’re using a test, but it’s not. It’s just what Midjourney uses to, improve their tiles.

And. I think that’s good. I’m happy with this. And I’m going to copy this.

[00:20:00] And then I’m going to paste it right here. And then I’m going to hit enter. And wait for it to do what I told it to do so 0% it’s doing now. So simply a matter of waiting. And hopefully here in a minute, it was show me what I want it to create. All right. So he saw the first iterations as you see.

It’s going to keep upgrading and, as it thinks, and as it tries to figure out what to you will see some patterns here coming up.

It’s 30%. Don’t get too like afraid yet of what you’re seeing here, because sometimes it might really surprise you. Just simply let it do its work. And at this point you can go get a cup of coffee, or if you want to, you can start a new one with a new, theme, if you want to, but we’ll just let it do what it does best.

So MidJourney is done, creating what it thinks I want it to create. I have to admit, I’m not particularly happy with either one of these. But I think I could run with this now. I personally like this, but I’m not sure if anybody would want to buy this one. It might be a little too abstract. So I’m going to go for this one right here and I’m going to ask it to variate it.

Because I’m not super happy with any of I can go ahead and say, redo.
